The Thames at Erith

Erith is sat on the River Thames, overlooking the river. The town centre is close to its banks and the riverside is accessible at many points.

The Thames is very wide at Erith and a great variety of river traffic passes by, much of it serving the industry that is a feature of the area. A good vantage point is Erith Pier, close to Morrisons supermarket car park, where you get a good view of the tides and the many birds and other wildlife that thrive on the river.

There are also views across to the London Borough of Havering and the Dartford Crossing between Kent and Essex. As you look in that direction you may see the Eurostar pass in front of the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge.

All of this a mere 5 minutes walk from Erith station or buses into Erith.

Downstream is Crayford Marshes, with inland views across ancient landscapes populated by marsh horses and riverbank views of saltmarsh.  A seawall pathway, with signs and information plaques, is accessible from next to Erith Yacht Club or Moat Lane near Slade Green station.
